1) Sitting adjacent to the where the tv screen comes into contact with the line of vision of two beautiful boys eager to watch the game, makes me feel like a total and complete spectator. Ping ponging from screen to viewer. From source to consumers and lovers of the trade. However, as one was something I was planning on observing, 30 minutes in I realised I was observing both.
2) There are lots of teams and lots of opinions about them. All of mine are irrelevant, though you quickly learn who on what team to look out for. Who loves the camera, who the camera loves, personalities start to shine through just like when a baby develops their own personality. Although, like a mother superimposes familiar traits onto her child, it’s only after years of closeness that she really knows. Likewise, until I have dedicated years of investment, I can only guess. 3) Some boxy faced men that continuously frown even when celebrating, sit on big red leather lined chairs that make it look like they’ve taken out the seats of their much loved sports cars and taken them into the arena with them. That, or they’re about to embark on a seriously gripping 30 hour video game with game play of the most up to date quality. 4) As much as someone might love football it can only hold their attention for so long before they start to drift of and think of other daily activities. Is this an invitation to conversation? Or do I treat it like a film, simply sitting and taking it all in. 5) Snacks. In my case, a few carrot sticks that I was offered and grabbed during the first 5 minutes was just as entertaining as finding a leaflet to read whilst waiting for a dentist appointment. It passes time. 6) Trying to see if there was a pattern or correlation in what colour footwear each player had opted for, occupied me for a good 15 minutes. And the goalie in a bright red kit made me think about football fashion and tomatoes. And about the red holographic fabric they sell at fabric land that I really like, a kit made of that fabric perhaps? 7) Side line graphics. Logos and familiar words that brightly pop up around the pitch. I wonder if the footballers ever get distracted and long lost childhood dreams of becoming graphic designers cross their minds and they stop and think “less of a kick on that last A and that typography could be perfection.” . The ad for Emirates made me think about adventures in Dubai. I reminded myself of a few stories but found nothing of substance. 8) Eventually I gave in and admitted to myself that I was well and truly bored. A boredom that causes restlessness, uneasy feelings and those bad thoughts that have been troubling you in the week to return in full swing. I did what I was resisting to do, I reached for my phone and grabbed it like a firing arm. Filling up my head with as much new information and beautiful art blog imagery to ease my feelings of idleness. 9) Total boredom and regret become the difficult family members that teach you to develop a loving patience and fearsome resilience. Sure I could leave right now, I could have left ages ago but I could also watch about ten more games. Try me. 10) Some kids being interviewed at the end made me want to see more of that. I think if a camera were placed on the crowd, it would have held my attention for quite a while. People watching will never get old, maybe throw in a kiss cam.
