Gabriela Bran lives in the United Kingdom and has parents of Salvadoran nationality. Having influences from both the UK and El Salvador, she often practised art and painting as a way to explore her identity and the values that both cultures had given her. Through school, she expressed a great love of image-making as well as storytelling and after finishing school undertook an art foundation at UAL's Camberwell College of Art. There she obtained a Merit for her final project which was a flash animated short and was her first attempt at animating digitally.
This was the gateway which lead her into film making and got her interested in animation, which she then went on to do in Bristol, at the University of the West of England. As a student, she learnt so much about what kind of films and processes she wanted to make and develop. With that came the birth of 'Dad Day', 'Bus hour' and her love for making music videos. During her course, Gabriela made 3 Music videos alongside her uni work and found she loved working with music and making experimental film. She also started a Poetry/open mic event which saw screenings and promoted creative projects and made and sold her own Zines.
Gabriela is now based in Bristol and is continuing to make music videos. She has been working with Bristol and Brighton based musicians as well as making her own music for her films. This had shown how versatile she can be and her eagerness to learn more and more skills that will help her to grow as a filmmaker. She has also kept up her entrepreneurial skills to keep events and screen-based events going. In future, she hopes to keep making experimental films and work with music to make films that capture her imagination and the playfulness that comes with all her processes.
